Few things say summer in Squamish like spending lazy afternoons at the lake. And living in such a mountainous region means there are thousands of small valleys and glacial landforms for lakes to appear in, many of them created by the presently melting glaciers from the last ice age. It should come as no surprise that, as well as a large number of lakes, Squamish also has an astonishingly large number of glaciers, too, many without official names.
We’ve flown over much of BC over the last 20 years but flying over Squamish is something very special. From a birds-eye-view, we’d argue that Squamish has some of the best lakes in BC and with great lakes come fantastic camping, too. Squamish has a bit of everything for everyone. If you’re feeling active you can hike to remote lakes, visit a swimming lake, take your dog for a paddle at one of Squamish’s dog-friendly beaches and lakes, or fly into a totally secluded lake for an afternoon picnic.
